York, NY--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--June 1, 2006--Aztec Equity
Partners today announced that its private equity fund
intends to invest in the next wave of
"disruptive" technologies: alternative fuels,
“green” building, and environmentally friendly
products. Aztec has already raised seed capital and is now
finalizing an agreement on a joint venture that will
commercialize an entire line of leading edge “green”
building products.
Although Aztec will consider opportunistic investments in
technologies across a broad range of industries, it will
be primarily focused on “green” technologies.
"Sustainable technologies will be the largest
economic opportunity of our century and will likely
experience a boom much similar to that of the internet,”
said Dr. Ali Akansu, the fund’s Managing Director
charged with overseeing all technology investments.
“By 2020, global reliance on fossil fuels could grow to
90%. High oil prices and a new energy act will greatly
accelerate the commercial viability and adoption of green
technologies across entire industries in the United
States. This will provide incredible opportunities for
investors seeking to maximize returns from early-stage
companies developing innovative technologies in these
fields,” emphasized Dr. Akansu.
“With the talent, resources, technology and know-how
required to commercialize “green” technologies, Aztec
is perfectly positioned to source deals from entrepreneurs
seeking to ride this technological wave. We will provide
portfolio companies with access to both the capital and
commercialization expertise required for success,”
stated Graciela Diaz, the Managing Director in charge of
technology commercialization.
Aztec has also developed a unique program to source deals:
the Aztec Commercialization Assistance Program (AZCAP).
“This program will provide early-stage minority and
women businesses in science, technology and engineering
with access to both capital and expertise. We believe that
the best, the brightest and the most talented Latino,
Indian, Asian and African-American entrepreneurs are
well-poised to create the next generation of technology
businesses,” said Alex Garcia, a Managing Director
heading sustainable design, materials and development.
